Jenny Childers is a licensed clinical professional counselor with 20 years experience having worked in inpatient and outpatient facilities as well as in private practice. Jenny’s clinical experience has helped individuals, couples and families who are experiencing emotional unhealth, suffering from mental illness and/or who are in need of crisis counseling.
Jenny understands the ever-changing needs of the Washington DC area having worked with an international clientele in a non-profit service organization for 17 years. She understands firsthand the complexities of working with first generation Americans as well as the sensitivity needed to help bring counseling services to clients from other nations. In addition to her counseling practice, Jenny has served extensively in humanitarian efforts in third world countries. Jenny's ability to work with adolescents and teenagers comes from her work as a Spiritual Life Program Director providing over-site and counseling to hundreds of adolescents and their families. While in Virginia Beach, obtaining her Master of Arts in Counseling, Jenny also had the privilege of working with military families as well as adolescents and young adults at a residential treatment center.
Jenny is proficient in counseling using both clinical and spiritual techniques and her counseling approach is based on an eclectic model that is primarily influenced by cognitive behavioral therapy and client-centered therapy. She is skilled in the areas of client care coordination and identifying a client’s circle of support. Jenny is also a gifted public speaker and has been asked to speak at several conferences throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. She is skilled in the art of taking complex information and breaking it down into easy to understand concepts. This skill is vital when it comes to helping clients understand themselves, their family members and their need for counseling.
